MBAS THANKS ITS SUPPORTERS Editor: Nancy Nourse
Date: March 8, 2012 Region: Memphremagog
Cécile Gélinas - director of the Musée des Beaux Arts de Sherbrooke is happy to announce that the 2012 edition of the Soirée des Beaux Arts raised the tidy sum of a little more than $77,000 for the Museum. This figure includes the sale of tickets for this special event as well as the sale of artworks at the auction. This is a record amount and many believe that was due to the presence of Dr. David Fortin as honorary president, notwithstanding the partnership with Restaurant Auguste and the generous support of the SAQ.
It was before a packed room that Bertrand La Palme started the bidding on the 54 works donated by artists and collectors. Several works drew prices of more than a thousand dollars each: works by historical and well-established artists such as the sculptor Yves Trudeau and Riopelle while works by artists also sold very well: Deborah Davis, France Jodoin and Étienne St. Amant. A paper work, 'Autoportrait', by Jean Paul Lemieux brought in top-dollar of the evening at $6,000.
The 24e edition of the Soirée des Beaux Arts marks the most important fundraising activity of the year for the Musée des Beaux Arts de Sherbrooke. The 2011 edition had raised $75,000.
