Date: December 16, 2011  Region: Memphremagog

creatio logoMme Annie Paradis, President of Créatio Centre d’artistes, and its Board of Directors wishes to inform the public that after 20 years of being a part of the Estrie visual arts scene, the corporation will ‘close the book’ on its activities at the end of this year (2011). The lack of new members and the exhaustion of its current members, who have volunteered their time to manage the corporation, were the determining factors of this decision by members at a special general assembly held last October.

Créatio is representative of a group of forty artists and some associate members working with avariety of disciplines, having in common the quality of their achievements, the respect ofcopy of 2011-06-20 141 one-artist-to-another and a rapport between the generations of artists -- Créatio Centre d’artistes is one of the most important groups of professional artists in the visual arts scene in the Estrie region.

Originally known as the Centre d’artistes de l’Université de Bishop’s (1992-1998), the artists decided, in 1999, to create the current corporation which has been dedicated to the interpretation and the diffusion of visual arts in the Cantons de l’Est.

Créatio organized and presented collective exhibitions by its members at the Centre des arts d’Orford, the Centre culturel Yvonne Bombardier in Valcourt, the Musée des Beaux-arts de Sherbrooke, the Foreman Art Gallery at Bishop’s University, during the Correspondences of Eastman and also at the Théâtre de la Marjolaine d’Eastman.

The diffusion and animation in visual arts at the Centre d’arts d’Orford, from 1998 to 2000, wascopy of 2011-06-20 143aanother Créatio accomplishment. In the summer of 2000, this collaborative took part in the implementation of the exposition ‘Coup d’oeil sur l’estampe québécoise d’hier à aujourd’hui’, in collaboration with Loto-Quebec.

In 2000, Créatio was elected and subsidized by the Municipality of the Canton de Magog for the management of the Gallery of the Centre d’Arts Azur in order to organize activities in visual arts. During the municipal fusion in 2002, the new administration of the Town of Magog renewed the partnership with Créatio for the management of this new Magog Arts Centre.

During these ten years, Créatio orchestrated more than one hundred individual and collective expositions by its members and invited artists of various mediums, in addition to organizing the ‘Symposium des arts visuels’, during Magog’s annual Cultural Week festivities.

As of January 2011, Créatio will no longer be managing the Galerie du Centre des Arts and will be devoting its time to the promotion and circulation of works by their members through three collective expositions under specific themes and through participation in the 9th Symposium des arts visuals.

The Board of Directors wishes to express their thanks to the founding visionary members and allcreatio art the artists who contributed to the dynamism of the group over the last 20 years, by means of their participation and volunteer efforts regarding the Gallery itself as well as on the Board of Directors and various committees for activities.

During this period, their work was made possible thanks to the confidence which they received from the regional and municipal administrations through the renewal each year of fruitful partnership agreements. These collaborations made it possible for the population to get to know a number of professional artists in visual arts who are completely dedicated to their artistic practices. The Créatio group also received support from several other organizations dedicated to the cultural field, during their bold and marvelous adventure.

Thank you to our financial partners, the visitors, friends and supporters, the collectors and the artists, themselves, who demonstrated such an unwavering fidelity,” said Mme Paradis.

It is with pride and with a profound feeling of accomplishment that Créatio ‘closes the books on another chapter’ and its members hope that the new Visual Arts Center proposed by the Town of Magog in the downtown area, will continue to build on the professionalism of both the local and regional visual artists.
