The Administrative Council of the University of Sherbrooke have unanimously voted their approval of the recommendation made by the conciliator, thus ratifying the new collective agreement regarding the Trade Union of employees and support staff of the University of Sherbrooke (SEESUS). This approval rating puts an end to the strike by support staff who will resume their normal work schedule as of Thursday, December 15, 2011, at one minute past midnight.
“I am equally as happy to see this conflict come to end and our support staff gets back to work, as are the members of the administrative council, the Executive Committee, the entire campus community and all the employees to be returning to their jobs. We can now return our focus to our mission which is education and research, for the benefit of our students and society as a whole,” noted Professor Luce Samoisette - Rectrice of the University of Sherbrooke.
The new collective agreement includes a 14.56% rise in salary between now and December 31, 2015, including the costs related to the implementation of a new salary table which will take effect on March 31, 2015. A clause has been inserted in the agreement that will see the research personnel integrated into the above wage system between now and December 1, 2012.
Moreover, in response to concerns of the support staff, a flat-rate amount could be distributed September 1, 2015 (maximum 2%) if the consumer price index (IPC) proves higher than wages that have been authorized during the period April 1, 2010 to March 31, 2015.
The terms of this new contract will end on December 31, 2015 and a new contract will have to be established.
