Collective and Adapted Transport now available
MRC de Memphremagog: Officially as of late January 2013, Transport des Alentours and the MRC of Memphremagog have combined their efforts to offer the people of the MRC of Memphremagog a reliable transit service. This service is offered in cooperation with the Covoiturage.ca network.
This service (Covoiturage.ca), available in both French and English online, represents a means of travel within the MRC of Memphrémagog, in Quebec, in Canada and even in the United States. Whether the need for travel is due to studies, work or leisure, the option of 'pooling resources' serves as a collective means of transportation throughout the region; a simple, practical, economic and ecological means of getting from place to place.
Drivers and travelers who wish to share the daily commute or an occasional trip are invited to use the carpooling tool made available on line. All they have to do is register (free) at www.memphre.covoiturage.ca and publish their offer of transit or request for a ride. An integrated message service at the above website has also been made available where people can communicate with each other privately).
This concept of collective transit also enables the public to make use of available seating on Transport des Alentours vehicles. It is, however, important to mention that the priority of Transport des Alentours has never changed - to provide a much needed service for people with disabilities and/or seniors, which allows the company to meet the criteria for adapted transit, established by the Ministry of Transport of Quebec. This new option of “carpooling” makes it possible to improve on the collective transport service, already in place.
Adapted Transportation service (reservation necessary), offered by Transport des alentours inc., is designed to answer the needs of people having physical, sensory, intellectual or psychic disabilities having a negative impact on their mobility.
Collective Transport service seeks to fill gaps in transport according to available spaces in vehicles used in the MRC of Memphremagog. This is a stop-gap service that is contingent upon real-time availabilities – not a door-to-door, fixed service. It is also possible for a group of 3 or more people residing in the same sector to make use of the service on an ‘à la carte basis’, if certain criteria are met.
The Centre de santé et services sociaux de Memphrémagog (CSSS) has also partnered with this project, encouraging its personnel and the public to benefit from this service. Transport des Alentours is a non-profit organization which offers adapted transport services within the MRC of Memphremagog (since July 1981) and collective transport services since May 2009.
The MRC of Memphremagog includes Austin, Ayer's Cliff, Bolton-Est, Canton de Hatley, Canton de Stanstead, Hatley, North Hatley, Ogden, Canton d'Orford, Canton de Potton, Eastman, Saint-Benoît-du-Lac, Saint-Étienne-de-Bolton, Sainte-Catherine-de-Hatley, Stanstead, Stukely-Sud and Magog.
