THE PIGGERY: Summer Theatre Camp

The PiggeryNORTH HATLEY: THE PIGGERY will be holding a summer theatre camp for young people aged 12 to 15 for 3 weeks this summer. The camp director will be Emma Stevens. It will run from Monday, July 15 till Friday, August 2 - 5 days a week. Cost is $150 per week. Support for this camp is provided by The Tillotson Coaticook Region Fund.

This camp gives young people a chance to express their individuality through drama with a chance to perform for the community. If you know of someone who might be interested, please spread the word. The goal is to have at least 20 students. Emma Stevens will be supervising this activity.

British actress Emma Stevens, who trained at the Guildford School of Acting and the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts, came to the Townships in the late 1970s. Infused with a love of theatre, she began organizing workshops to train young people from the region. She then founded the Lac Brome Theatre that now has become so much a part of Townships’ culture.

Emma Stevens has indeed been the inspiration behind the revival of English theatre in Knowlton. She also founded what is now known as the amateur Knowlton Players troupe (which brought British panto to the Townships), as well as the Echo Art Theatre Camp for kids (summer camp for children of all ages, enabling the development of their artistic talents).

THE PIGGERY is a perfect venue for Emma Stevens’ efforts to bring the world of theatre to the young people of today, helping them to experience the wonders of this amazing form of artistic expression. For information and registration please call 819-842-2431.
