Étienne Saint-Amant
SHERBROOKE: For Sherbrooke’s Étienne Saint-Amant, being the scientist and visual artist that he is, feels that mathematics has much to tell us! Holding a master's degree in computer science - specializing in digital imaging, this young artist is able to work these mathematical formulas into creative works of art. Experts regard him as one of the most promising artists of his generation.
Saint-Amant describes himself as a cross between a scientist and an artist. For him, everything in nature - its very movement (such as the wind) - is the result of a mathematical formula. He explains that the very basis of mathematics is shapes, colours and luminosity.
“For 2013, I decided to present my art in other places than where I had in the past. I am attracted by the creativity of the world of DESIGN and I think mathematical art has earned its place. My goal is to advocate my creative approach, original and unique as it is in itself. With this being the 25th edition, the SIDIM is the one rendez-vous that I could not miss,” added Étienne Saint-Amant.
For the last 25 years, the MONTREAL INTERNATIONAL DESIGN SHOW, to be held in the “Avenue of Culture”, has highlighted the history of design in Quebec. Returning as the theme for another exciting exhibition will be the ‘Show de Chaises’. Quebec celebrities from the arts, design and television have taken up the challenge of transforming a simple wooden chair into a true work of art. In addition, by participating in the ‘Show de Chaises’ raffle, you will have a chance to walk away with one of the unique chairs within the exhibit! The profits collected from the raffle will go to the Esprit de Corps Foundation.
In Quebec, more than 365,000 single-parent families were identified and more than 1.5 million in Canada in 2012. This figure continues to grow. Created in 2006, the mission of the Esprit de Corps Foundation is to develop a specific program to directly benefit single parents with dependent children, to restore their strength and sense of motivation needed to face the challenges of life today. In 2013, the objective of the Foundation is to enable a hundred single-parent families to receive support regarding both their health and their ability to cope with difficult situations in order to improve their daily life with their children.
The 25th Montreal International Design Show represents a real journey around the world, promoting networking between professionals, both here and abroad. It is a place to meet and share international expertise.
