Stanstead Working to Increase Tourism

Stanstead town logo-2STANSTEAD: In addition to the existing Guided Walking Tour of the downtown area of Stanstead, scheduled from June 21st to September 2nd, the Town will be offering a Guided Theatrical Tour of Stanstead, incorporating details on the smuggling and prohibition days in the 1920s, to be offered on weekends throughout August.

Entitled À la recherche de Johnny Bootlegger and under the direction of Lorraine Beaudry, a recognized professional in the arts, this project involves theatrical sketches focusing on local history and peculiarities of the bordertown of Stanstead which is rich in history and heritage.

This casting call is open to volunteer actors of all ages, both French and English-speaking. No experience is required, but participants must be available for performances in August as well as rehearsals in July.

Original auditions took place on June 12 (1:30p.m.) at 10 Phelps Street. The Town is also looking for barrels, old bottles, stills or object used by bootleggers as well as stories, costumes and decorations related to this topic.
