Beaulne Museum - Baseball At Its Best
COATICOOK: The Beaulne Museum in Coaticook is pleased to present the exhibition ‘Elle est partie! Le baseball à son meilleur (Here we go! Baseball at its Best)’, as well as the book ‘Coup sûr au Stade Julien-Morin’ by journalist Christian Caron. The ‘vernissage’ and the book launch will take place on Friday, June 28, 2013 (4p.m.). The exhibition, itself, will continue until November 10, 2013. The public is cordially invited to attend.
Classed among the most popular sports in North America, baseball has a particularly rich history in Canada. The organization behind the Jeux du Canada 2013, to be held in Sherbrooke this summer, offers us an opportunity to explore and relive these historical days, if only in part, as a source of information and delight surrounding this sporting activity. The hundredth anniversary of baseball in Coaticook will be celebrated as well as homage paid to local baseball pioneers. This tribute will be presented in the form of a book by journalist Caron, ‘Coup sûr au Stade Julien-Morin’, a work bursting with revealing texts and evocative images of the glorious past of local baseball.
The exhibition will include archival documents, photographs, uniforms, bats, balls, gloves, etc, of which some are very impressive. For example, the bats used by Jackie Robinson and Gary Carter, balls signed by baseball greats such as Claude Raymond, Guy Lafleur, Vladimir Guerrero, etc. The section devoted to Coaticook will include photographs, documents and equipment heralding the achievements of the pioneers of local baseball.
The Beaulne Museum is financially supported by the Ministry of Culture and Communications as well as la Ville de Coaticook. La Caisse populaire Desjardins des Verts-Sommets de l’Estrie contributes financially to the organization of numerous activities. The Institution has benefited from a subsidy given by the organizing committee of the Jeux du Canada - Sherbrooke 2013 to help with this particular exhibition.
The Beaulne Museum is located at Château Norton, 96 Union Street, Coaticook (Quebec). For more information : 819-849-6560
