Exhibition: Photographic Artist Jean Grothé
COATICOOK: The Museum Beaulne de Coaticook is pleased to present “Coaticook en lumière noire” featuring artistic photographer Jean Grothé (July 7 - September 8, 2013). The official launch of this latest exhibition took place on Sunday, July 7.
This particular exhibition presents work created by artistic photographer Jean Grothé, in 2011 and 2012, thanks to the program “Artist in Residence” offered by la Ville de Coaticook. Visitors will notice elements of the region, but perceived through the eyes of the photographer and transposed into his poetic universe. In a singular and astonishing way, we are shown the beauty of the world such as the owl sees it which, if one can imagine, would clearly be seen in the negative form…
“Photography is for me a sensory and sensual experience. Consequently, my images are correspondences or as Stieglitz put it, ‘of experimental equivalence’”, explained Grothé.
For the exhibition “Coaticook en lumière noire”, Jean Grothé’s images are reverted to negative impressions. The body of the exhibition is composed of about thirty works. Grothé has presented his work in both solo and collective exhibitions throughout Canada, Europe and in Shanghai. His works can also be found in several private collections. He has received various marks of distinction, including the Award of Excellence SIDIM (International Exhibition of Interior Design Montreal) in 2012.

‘ARTIST IN RESIDENCE’
For several years now, la Ville de Coaticook has initiated ‘Artist in residence’, a program making it possible for numerous artists to have free access to a well-equipped studio apartment where they can work undisturbed for several weeks, creating works highlighting local treasures and the scenic beauty of the neighboring countryside - a perfect atmosphere to stimulate inspiration and creativity. It is impossible for a creative mind to be indifferent to such a beautiful region - the Appalachian Mountains, small valleys, rivers, lakes and woodlands. Several artists have already taken part in this program, benefiting from this incredible opportunity, augmenting their personal collection of artworks during their stay in Coaticook.
The period for candidatures for the year 2013 is now closed but the deadline to submit your candidature for the year 2014 is not until Monday, October 7, 2013. The selection committee will meet in November to analyze the applications received. For additional information on this special program, contact la Ville de Coaticook at (819) 849-2721.
