Only have a few more things left to shop for before the Holiday Season arrives? Visit the MBAS Boutique in Sherbrooke for that last minute gift or the gift for that special someone. You will find original works by Eastern Townships’ artists: paintings, drawings, sculptures, photographs, jewellery and pottery items. Something for all tastes… and all purses! You will also find Christmas cards, some of which showcase illustrated works by artists of the Museum collection: Jacques Barbeau, Frederick Simpson Coburn and Alfred Pellan. Opening hours of the gift shop will coincide with opening hours of the Museum. Personnel on site will be happy to assist you if it is a work of art you are looking for.

Marie Lupien Durocher returns with more Christmas Tales

On Thursday, December 29 (10 a.m.), Marie Lupien Durocher will be awaiting you at the Museum des Beaux Arts de Sherbrooke once more, with another series of Christmas Tales. “This evening of December, Camille finds it difficult to fall asleep where there is so much excitement in the air. Tomorrow is Christmas! To help herself fall asleep, she stretches out her arm to catch the ball of glass which she had received as a gift last year. As she shakes it, hundreds of small white flakes dance inside, covering a miniature village of Santa Claus. Suddenly, through the flakes, she sees a small elf who beckons to her. Impossible! But who is this? ” From this tale within a tale, Camille discovers the history of this strange little character that has much to say about this magical time of year…

Accompanied by her faithful friend, the harp, Marie Lupien Durocher (Sherbrooke) prolongs the magic of Christmas for the little ones. This Sherbrooke storyteller began telling stories at the Museum eight years ago. After winning both a prize at both Cégep de Sherbrooke and the University of Sherbrooke in Performing Arts, she is now a welcome visitor in various environments, at different public gatherings, sometimes accompanied by her harp, her Djembé and/or her ‘spoons’…   This Christmas performance will be geared toward children 3 – 9 years of age (duration - 45 minutes). The cost is $12 $ per family. Tickets are on sale at the reception desk of the Museum.

Opening Hours during the Holiday Season: The Museum will be open from 12p.m-5p.m. on Tuesday, December 20 to Friday, December 23. MBAS will be closed December 24, 25 and 26, re-opening Tuesday December 27 until Friday, December 30. Closed December 31 and January 1. January 3, 2012, the MBAS doors will reopen according to normal activities and schedule.

The Museum of the Fine Arts of Sherbrooke, financially supported by le ministère de la Culture, des Communications et de la Condition féminine and by the Ville de Sherbrooke, welcomes visitors Tuesdays through Sundays (12 p.m. to 5 p.m.). It is located in the downtown area, at 241 rue Dufferin. Cost of entry: $7.50/adults; $6/ seniors; $5 / students; family rates available.
